WORKSHOPS

The Washington State Indian Education Association (WSIEA) Board invites presenters to share their experiences and knowledge with educators, students, and administrators at our 38th Annual WSIEA Conference. Presentations should be positive, motivating, and informative.  We wish to increase the conference participant’s knowledge, skills, and experience as it relates to Indian education, Native youth empowerment, community involvement, and Indian self-determination. Suggested conference topics should reflect our 2020 conference theme.

RECOGNITION & STUDENT MERIT AWARDS

 

The Washington State Indian Education Association (WSIEA) takes an opportunity each year during our annual conference to acknowledge accomplishments of Native individuals who have contributed significantly to the education of Native people and of excellent Native Students.  These awards include:

 

  • Indian Educator of the Year
  • Indian Elder of the Year
  • Indian Parent of the Year
  • Higher Education Indian Student of the Year
  • High School Indian Student of the Year

WSIEA honors one high school senior and one higher education student who will receive a monetary merit award ($800 for high school seniors and $1,000 for current college students).  Award recipients will be announced at the WSIEA Awards Banquet taking place April 3, at the 38th Annual WSIEA Conference. Nominations only need to be made for the Indian Educator of the Year, Elder of the Year, and Outstanding Indian Parent of the Year. Applications/ nominations must be postmarked on or before February 16, 2024.

 

VENDORS WELCOME! 

Vendors are always welcome to the annual conference. We welcome profit and non-profit vendor space. All registered vendors are requested to donate an item for the WSIEA door prize drawing or silent auction. Remember we are selling authentic native arts and crafts, these items will be checked out by the WSIEA members.

 

To reserve a vendor booth you can contact Martha Sherman 253-517-1000 ext. 25103 or by emailing msherman@fifeschools.com. You will find additional information on the registration form found in this packet. Space will be reserved on a first come first reserved basis. Register early due to limited space so you will not miss out. This year we will be unable to offer online registration/payment through the WSIEA website.

PLEASE NOTE: Exhibitor fees do not include any conference activities or meals. However, meal tickets can be purchased at the registration table. Exhibitor fees are as follows:

• For-profit: $200 for all three days
• Non-profit: $150 for all three days

CULTURE ROOM

We are excited to offer the Culture Room again this year. The purpose of this room is to provide a hands-on experience for educators to participate in culturally relevant activities within Native American culture. Local Native Americans will be invited to be a part of this interactive culture room and may include: beading, carving, cedar work, sewing regalia, drum making, jewelry making, painting, basket making, and other activities.

WSIEA DRAWING
